Paradise Found: Koh Chang, Thailand

The past few weeks have been quiet for us as we’ve settled into our own little private paradise, which comes in the form of a rustic fisherman’s villa built directly overtop an estuary in Koh Chang, Thailand.
After the previous month of travel through Vietnam, where we moved from place to place every few days, living out of suitcases and eating nearly every meal out, this has been a much welcomed change of pace.
We’ve retreated into our own little bubble, barely leaving our miniature oasis except to walk into town for supplies or canoe over to the beach a stone’s throw away, where the kids build sand castles while we sip icy drinks and consider the many alternative futures we can envision for our family.
Tucked away in this quiet dreamworld, with 180 degree vistas of lush mountains, river, mangroves, and ocean framed each day by spectacular cotton candy sunsets and sunrises, shared only with the local fisherpeople quietly going about their business, it’s easy to give ourselves the space to withdraw into our own little family microcosm and envision what might be.
Next week, we’ll be back on the move — headed to Siem Reap, Cambodia to explore Angkor Wat — but for now we’re soaking up every last moment in this perfect paradise, knowing that it’s a place and time we’ll dream about returning to for many tomorrows to come.
